Home from School Snack

I love to make my kids a snack once or twice a week. I have always felt there is something special about children coming home from school and having a special snack made especially by mom. My kids just light up every time a snack is waiting for them after a long day at school. The snack can be as simple as pudding in a fancy cup, chocolate chip banana muffins, or cookies.

I love getting the Family Fun Magazine every month. On the menu for today's after school snack is from the Family Fun Magazine. This mom was brilliant coming up with this recipe. She said when her children eat trail mix they go straight for the chocolate and ignore the rest. Oh how my kids do the same thing. This recipe is suppose to prevent that from happening. I guess I will find out after school.

Chocolate-Drizzled Trail Mix
3 cups nuts (I used peanuts, almonds, and pistachios)
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
1/2 cup coconut flakes
1/2 cup dried cranberries or cherries
1 cup raisins(ew, I left these out)
1 cup chocolate chips
Spread the nut mixture on a baking sheet with wax paper. Melt chocolate in the microwave. Pour chocolate over nut mixture in ribbons. Stir to coat everything. Let chocolate cool, then break the mix into pieces.
