Tonsils and Adenoids

I would describe Olivia as my sickly child. I don't want to bore anyone with all her illness, but I would like to get information from my fabulous blog readers. Are you out there? The ENT (ear, nose, throat) doctor has suggested we have Olivia's tonsils and adenoids removed. Has anyone had an experience with themselves or your children having tonsils and adenoids removed? I'm not worried about getting a second opinion, because I trust this doctor a 100 percent and especially when he said if his 10 year old daughter was sitting in the chair in place of Olivia he would have the surgery done.

Garrett had a tonsil/adenoidectomy done when he was about 2.5 years old. Before that he had been dx-ed with asthma and got every respiratory ailment that he came across - upper, lower, bronchitis, croup - you name it, he got it and frequently. The funny thing is - he didn't have the chronic ear infections. Anyway - best thing we ever did for him. The first two weeks were kind of rough (no joke) but after that everything was so much better. He just doesn't get sick like that anymore.

Good wishes! Hope that helps.

Mitchell had his tonsils out when he was 5 years old. They were enlarged and caused breathing problems during the day and snoring problems at night. The recovery was painful (the pain meds helped) but once it was over, we were all glad he had them out.

Trinette, I was around 7 years old when I had my tonsils out. I remember the Ether as the anesthesia. Olivia will not have to go through that experience

Adam had his out as a kid, and his sister, Alea had hers out as an adult...100% difference in how often they were sick.

I have a friend in Utah who was constantly at the doctor with her kids because of ear and throat problems. Four years ago a doctor finally suggested she have the Adenoids and Tonsils removed. It made such a HUGE difference she had it done for all her kids. I know she would recommend it to anyone! Good luck!

I'm pretty slow to comment....but Ty got his adenoids out when he got tubes in his ears. He hasn't had an ear infection since for three years! Bliss!
