Aivan writes his letters backwards and from right to left. I can not remember for the life of me if Olivia and Grace did this when they were learning how to write. I do know that writing letters backwards is common, but the right to left has me kind of stumped. I have tried to work with him along with big sister Olivia and he doesn't get it. I do know this is a symptom of dyslexia and it might work it's self out. I wasn't too concerned until Aivan's preschool teacher asked me if I had noticed that he writes his letters backwards and right to left. Aivan is turning 5 in June and will be starting Kindergarten in the fall. Has anyone had an experience with this??

A few of my kids have written their name backwards until Kindergarten. I did have to work with them a lot to do it right though. I would print their name a couple of times and have them write it just the same right under the one I had written. Cute letters on your post!
One thing you can teach him is how we follow things on a page. Top to bottom, left to right. Sometimes kids just don't know that, so it might help him get things in the right order.
I'm dyslexic, but mostly with numbers. It's a challenging road, but with help and motivation, things are usually fine. Just be patient with him. If he is dyslexic, they can work with him in school.
Tyler totally did this, and it really freaked me out for a while. He did outgrow it, probably because we practiced tracing letters a lot. He still starts lots of letters from the bottom or the right, but he writes them correctly now (for the most part). I think Shaina's advice is great.
Ben is finishing up Kindergarten, and is doing really well, but still writes things backwards from time to time. Not just letters, but whole words. He is a lefty too. I don't know if that makes a difference. I wouldn't worry too much unless the Kindergarten teacher has other concerns. Most of Ben's backwards writing worked itself out over this year, but he still does it from time to time!
Sadie was doing that this year still and her Kindergarten teacher said that is not uncommon for this age. She says that usually by the end of the year they are making them the correct way. Some letters are confusing and tend to be made backwards - s, d and b of course!
