Wednesday evening at 5:13 p.m. the phone rings.
Trinette: Hello
Nathan: Are you busy?
Trinette: No
N: Can you come pick me up?
T: Yes, what's up?
N: My car is not working
T: Is it the starter?
N: No, it is totaled
T: Are you okay?
N: Yes!
T: I will be right there.
Nathan was trying to be calm for me on the phone, he did not want to worry me.
Bummer, bummer, bummer. Can I say that one more time, BUMMER! Nathan had a horrible day at work, was distracted and rear ended the person in front of him. They took the women to the hospital, but they said it was precautionary. Hopefully she is okay. We were excited about bonus and tax return money because we were going to start working on finishing our basement. We finally felt like we had some breathing room. Moving into a new home is expensive. We have no debt, except for our house (that doesn't really count, does it?). We just had liability on Nathan's car, so the smashed up car is in our garage. Now we have to find him a new car. Well at least a new car to us that cost us the least amount of money possible and probably no finishing the basement-ugh! Wow!! This brings back bad memories for me. The last time we had a totaled car was 4 and a half years ago when I was 36 weeks pregnant with Aivan and had to have him 4 weeks early because of the car accident. I am counting my blessings that Nathan was not injured. Darn it, this stinks though!

I AM SO GLAD NATHAN IS OK! THESE
DARN CARS ARE SO EXSPENSIVE. AND YET WE CAN'T DO WITHOUT ONE WITH A FAMILY. TRANSPERTATION IS AS IMPORTANT AS A ROOF OVER OUR HEADS.
I AM SO GLADE NATHAN IS OK!!!!
Oh ugh! I am so glad Nathan is okay though!!
You know - when I did the same thing with our van a couple Christmases ago, the check for the totaled van covered the cost of repairs+. I had to pay the salvage fee to the insurance company and also the deductible to "buy back" the van, but even at that, we still ended up with almost $3000 for repairs on the van. Once it was repaired, I took it to the insurance office and they inspected it to make sure the repairs had been made and reinstated it on our insurance with comprehensive again. Totally worth it to not have to replace our primary vehicle. The dealership that repaired the van even gave us a loaner vehicle to drive while they repaired the van. (Took forever, but that is another story . . .)
Good luck and give Nathan a big hug from his big sister for me. I am so grateful no one was hurt. I ended up on crutches and in a high tech boot for breaking my foot in my collision.
I forgot to say LOL on Nathan "my car is not working". Soooooooooooooo like Nathan to play it down. I remember as a little kid him setting something on fire and coming back all sooty and guilty looking and mom asking him "What are you doing??" and him shoving his hands in his pockets, rocking back on his heels and saying "nuttin'"
:0)
I was showing Jessi the car and realized that you said you only had liability on it - :0( Sorry! That really stinks.
Man, I hate that! Glad Nathan is okay--said to say goodbye to the ol' wagon...
I can't believe his car! Man Trinette, you are a strong woman but it doesn't make it any easier that your basement will be postponed for a bit! Glad Nathan is ok too.
Oh, what a bummer. So sorry you have to deal with this! Glad Nathan is okay.
What a terrible time! Was it cheaper to buy a new car rather than fix the crashed one?
Hope nathan has a safe and uneventful drive back today.
Trinette! I am so sorry that happened! I completely understand what you mean though about the timing. It feels like every time we get to that point one of those unexpected expenses pops up. I am so sorry. I am very glad that Nathan is ok though.
Ben actually was there and saw the wreck. Nuts huh. So sorry to hear about it, but so glad everyone is o.k.
